Real estate agents need to provide value to their clients. At least if they want to get enthusiastic referrals and keep their sellers placated until the house sells. Did you know that in most states, lawyers don’t have to attend a real estate school, they just have to pass the real estate test? I think that real estate agents provide most of their value by making sure that the transaction has dotted “i”s and crossed “t”s. That’s why a lawyer doesn’t have to go to real estate school, they’re already going to be wise to some of the important aspects of such an important transaction. Have you ever seen someone argue with a cashier about a $0.17 price difference on a watermelon? How about a $250,000 home that has a closing on Thursday, but on the following Tuesday it rains heavily and a large leak develops? The likelihood of a lawsuit is much higher if the transaction isn’t guided on both sides by professionals.
So real estate agents take care of the transaction, AND help you sell your home? WOW, now that’s just awesome.
Anyways, I’ll stop waxing poetic about the noble real estate agent…..
So on to the business idea:
In a 30 second nutshell: Develop a route for the 100 grocery stores (yes there are over 100 grocery stores in the Salt Lake Valley), laundromats, college student centers, etc. You run this route on a Saturday, and sell advertising in the form of “house for sale” sheets which are put up at all of the bulletin boards.
For $59.95, an agent can have his listing up on 100 bulletin boards, and be able to TELL their client that they’ve got the listing up on the bulletin boards. A lot of value for $59.95.
The person that does the route would sell 5-6 ads per week, and at about $60 each, that’d be $300-360 per Saturday.
It would be marketed by having another route! This one would be of the brokerages in the valley (I bet you’re looking at nearly 100 or more offices easy) and you’d leave a flyer for the service. You could even charge an extra $25 for creating the flyer or something.
